Our Distinctives
As a community of faith, we as a church are committed to the following:High View of God
In an age where a Biblical view of God has been exchanged for human speculation and presumption, we seek to establish, maintain, and build upon a Biblical appraisal of the character of God. We believe man cannot have a high enough view of his Creator. We endeavor therefore to study God and His attributes that we might live our lives in submission to who He truly is and not who we think Him to be. We believe that growth in the Christian life is an increasing view of God that inevitably leads to a diminishing view of ourselves. We point men to the object of our faith, Jesus Christ, and thus come to love Him and rejoice in Him more. (Leviticus 10:3, Psalm 103:19, Romans 11:33-36)
Holy Living
The only response of the believer to a Biblical view of God is an unquenchable desire for holiness. God Himself is uniquely holy and demands nothing less than perfect righteousness from all men. We believe that holiness is not an optional addendum to the Christian life. It is the Christian life. Our passion is to be holy in every area of our lives, applying all diligence to present to God lives characterized by obedience to His Word. (Psalm 119:1, Hebrews 12:14. 1 Peter 1:15-16)
Verse By Verse, Expositional Preaching and Teaching
We believe the Holy Scriptures were given by God to the church as the only rule for faith and practice and are inerrant. Understanding and applying the truths of Scripture are paramount for living the Christian life. Because of the great value of the Bible, we seek in all that we do to "expose" the truths contained therein through verse by verse, expositional preaching and teaching. Though topical studies have a valuable place in the life of the church, it is our desire to study entire books of the Bible, giving attention to context, language, grammar, culture, and history, that we might derive the author's original intent and meaning. We seek to teach the whole counsel of God. The final goal of the study of the Word is not simply knowledge, but the fruit of hearts and minds transformed to godliness. (2 Timothy 3:15-4:4, Luke 24:27, Romans 10:17)
Reverent and Joyful Worship
We believe that God is worthy of all praise and adoration both for who He is and for what He has done in sending the Lord Jesus to save sinners. We seek therefore to worship Him "in spirit and in truth" every day of our lives, as well as in the formal gathering of the saints. Because worship is entirely about God and the turning of our hearts toward Him, we do not strive to entertain in times of worship. We come to bow before a holy God and lift up hearts full of joyful praise to our great and merciful Redeemer. (Psalm 2:11; 33:1, Colossians 3:16)
Equipping the Saints for Service
The Lord has placed each believer into the body of Christ. It is into this body, the church, which He has also placed gifted pastors and teachers for the equipping of the saints for the work of service. Because the church is the ordained means for bringing believers from infancy to maturity, we seek to honor God by shepherding, training, and exhorting each believer to labor for His kingdom. It is the body of Christ, through its many parts, which shows the world of our love for the Savior by our love for one another. Serving is a ministry of all believers. We seek to equip the saints to know and apply God's Word so that they may provoke one another to love and good works. (Ephesians 4:11-12, Colossians 1:28, 1 Peter 5:1-3)
